SOPHIE & JAMIE’S PRE-WEDDING SHOOT IN LONG PRESTON, YORKSHIRE
Back in March, I met Sophie and Jamie in Long Preston, North Yorkshire, for their pre-wedding session ahead of their June wedding at the beautiful Eaves Hall in Lancashire.
March can be slightly unpredictable when it comes to weather, but we completely lucked out. It was cool and crisp, but with the most incredible clear blue skies and beautiful spring light - perfect for wandering through the countryside and getting some relaxed photographs together before their wedding day.
And, very importantly, Sophie and Jamie brought their little dog Nellie along too. 🤍
A relaxed pre-wedding shoot in Long Preston
One of the reasons I love pre-wedding sessions is that there really doesn’t need to be much to them.
You don’t need an elaborate location, a carefully planned wardrobe or any idea whatsoever about how to pose. We can simply go for a wander somewhere beautiful, chat along the way and make photographs as we go.
For Sophie and Jamie, we explored the countryside around Long Preston, making the most of the gorgeous March sunshine and wide blue skies. Nellie came along for the adventure, which made the whole thing feel even more like an afternoon walk together than a photoshoot.
That’s exactly how I want these sessions to feel.
Why have a pre-wedding shoot?
For lots of couples, their pre-wedding session is the first time they’ve ever been professionally photographed together.
If the thought of having a camera pointed at you makes you feel slightly awkward, you’re very much not alone. You don’t need to arrive knowing what to do with your hands or having practised poses in the mirror beforehand.
My approach to pre-wedding photography is relaxed and natural, with just enough gentle direction that you’re never left wondering what you’re supposed to be doing.
It also means that when the wedding arrives, being photographed doesn’t feel like something completely new. Sophie and Jamie had their session in March before getting married at Eaves Hall in June, so by the time their wedding day came around we’d already spent time together and they knew exactly what to expect from me.
And most importantly, a pre-wedding shoot gives you some lovely photographs of the two of you from this particular little chapter of your lives - rather than every professional photograph you own together involving wedding clothes!
Can you bring your dog to a pre-wedding shoot?
Absolutely.
If your dog is part of your family, they’re more than welcome to come along to your engagement or pre-wedding session. In fact, I love it when they do.
Having Nellie with us made Sophie and Jamie’s session feel even more personal to them, and dogs are also rather brilliant at removing any temptation to take a photoshoot too seriously.
They don’t need to behave perfectly, either. We can stop for sniffing breaks, let them explore and work around them rather than expecting them to suddenly develop the temperament of a professional canine model.
We’ll get photographs of all of you together and make sure there’s plenty of time for photographs of just the two of you as well.

Sophie and Jamie’s Long Preston pre-wedding shoot was exactly what I want these sessions to be: easy, informal and completely without pressure.
A beautiful crisp March day, blue skies over the Yorkshire countryside, lots of laughter and one very lovely little dog.
And the perfect warm-up for their gorgeous June wedding at Eaves Hall. 🤍
