Alanna & Jack’s Spring Wedding at Browsholme Hall & The Tithe Barn
April gave us one of those glorious spring days that feels suspiciously like summer for Alanna and Jack’s wedding at Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn.
Beautiful blue skies, sunshine over the Ribble Valley and a whole day surrounded by their favourite people - including their gorgeous chocolate Labrador, Joey - it was exactly the sort of relaxed spring wedding I love photographing.
As a recommended wedding photographer at Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn, it’s a venue I know incredibly well and always love returning to. There are so many beautiful places for photographs, but importantly, we never need to disappear for hours to make the most of them.
For Alanna and Jack, that meant plenty of time enjoying their wedding with their guests, with just a little wander around the grounds for portraits of the two of them.
A Spring Wedding at Browsholme Hall & The Tithe Barn
Set in the beautiful Ribble Valley countryside in Lancashire, Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn is one of those wedding venues that works wonderfully at any time of year.
Alanna and Jack married in The Tithe Barn, surrounded by their family and friends.
The Barn is such a beautiful setting for a ceremony. Its character and warmth make it feel special without needing endless decoration, while the huge windows and doors allow plenty of natural light into the space.
And on a day like this one, with those incredible April blue skies outside, it looked particularly lovely.
Bringing Your Dog to a Browsholme Hall Wedding
There was one particularly important guest at Alanna and Jack’s wedding - their beautiful chocolate Labrador, Joey.
I absolutely love it when couples bring their dogs along to their wedding. They’re part of the family, so it makes complete sense to include them in the photographs and the day itself.
Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn is a wonderful venue if you’re dreaming of including your dog in your wedding celebrations, with plenty of outdoor space and those gorgeous grounds giving us lots of opportunities for photographs together.
And as anyone who knows me will probably already be aware, I need very little encouragement when it comes to photographing dogs at weddings. 🤍
Natural Wedding Photography at Browsholme
My approach to wedding photography is always a mixture of natural documentary storytelling and beautiful, editorial-inspired portraits.
Most of the day is about letting the wedding happen.
The reactions during the ceremony. The hugs afterwards. People laughing over drinks. The little interactions between family and friends that nobody has planned and which often end up becoming some of the most important photographs in the gallery.
Then, when the light is beautiful and there’s a natural opportunity in the timeline, we’ll take a little time for photographs of the two of you.
No hours-long photoshoot. No disappearing from your guests for half the reception.
Just enough direction that you feel comfortable, plenty of movement and photographs that still feel like you.
Wedding Portraits in the Grounds of Browsholme Hall
One of the huge advantages of having your wedding at Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn is the variety of photography locations right on the doorstep.
For Alanna and Jack, we headed into the grounds for their couple portraits, making the most of the beautiful spring sunshine and clear skies - and of course Joey joined in with some of them too.
Having photographed weddings at Browsholme many times, I already know where the light works at different points in the day and which locations give us something beautiful without taking you miles away from your wedding.
That familiarity is particularly useful when the wedding timeline is running slightly differently from planned - as wedding days quite often do! - because we can make the most of whatever time and light we have rather than spending it searching for somewhere to photograph.
A Relaxed Tithe Barn Wedding
What I want most when couples look back through their wedding photographs is for them to remember what the day actually felt like.
Of course I want to make beautiful photographs. I love gorgeous light, thoughtful composition and creating portraits that have that slightly editorial feel.
But your wedding isn’t a photoshoot.
The photographs should fit around the experience rather than the experience being organised around the photographs.
Alanna and Jack’s spring wedding was a perfect example of that: a beautiful setting, gorgeous April sunshine, time for some portraits around the grounds and, most importantly, plenty of time for them to actually enjoy celebrating with everyone they’d invited.
